I have just entered two poems in the Children's Writer poetry contest. The first is titled: SILLY LITTLE SALLY, and the second is titled: GEORGE WASHINGTON. I have also entered a story in the Highlights fiction contest. The requiremnts were that the story be set in the future an be between 400 and 800 words depending on the age group you were writng for. The title of this story I adapted from the BRIDGETT BUNNY BATTLES BALLISTIC BUMPER CARS. The short story title is ABIGAIL BATTLES BALLISTIC BUMPER CARS. It is a story about a little girl who believes she lives in another world and is the captain of a galactic patrol spaceship. She must go to different planets in whatever galaxy she is assigned to and handle any problems that the individual planets can not take care of by themselves.

Here is just one of the stories I am working on now.
BRIDGETT BUNNY BATTLES BALLISTIC BUMPER CARS
In this new Bridgett Bunny book, Bridgett lives in the year 3030. She is on a routine patrol mission in the xyzander galaxy when she receives a distress call from the inhabitants of planet Bumper. It seems as if some of the younger bumper cars have gone ballistic and are in need of corralling.
Follow Bridgett through her fast paced race to aid the more solid citizens from the seemingly ballistic youngsters. In this children's book, children will learn that being rambunctious can be a good thing at the right time and in the right place, but being calm has its rewards as well.

For Thursday, August 28 - Let your creativity call the shots today -- no matter what silly stuff it's telling you to do. So what if it tells you to wear mismatched socks, speak only in rhyme, or skip down the street all day? It needs you to hear its voice. Apparently, you have been ignoring it a little too much for a little too long. Being serious might get you more credibility at work, but what is it doing for your personality? Let your wackier side show -- people will love seeing you flex your creative muscles.
For Thursday, August 28 - If you end up dealing with an arrogant person today, try not to let their bad behavior tarnish who they are in your eyes. Sometimes when people get put into a difficult situation, they lash out and act defensively or impolitely. Perhaps this boorish person is just feeling insecure? Try to understand that one encounter will not give you a complete idea of who they really are. Give this person another chance to impress you. You will be very glad that you did.
For Thursday, August 28 - Your confidence is going to get one or two boosts early on today, which will send your ego skyrocketing -- but while that happens, make sure that you keep your feet planted on the ground! If you get too opinionated about things, you could push some people away who were just warming up to you! So be sure to use the power of your growing ego for good -- believe that you are the most charming person in the room, and others will see that, too. You don't have to say a word.
For Thursday, August 28 - If you act more on your impulses, you will be able to mix up your routine and have more fun! The fact that your day-to-day business is getting boring has more to do with you than anything else -- you've got to remember that you have the power to add excitement to your life. Your friends would absolutely love it if you loosened up a bit and stopped taking things so seriously -- and boy, would they love to help you do it! They have some ideas, so why not ask them for some input?
For Thursday, August 28 - You should continue on your quest to be more mindful of other people, today, by letting someone else in on the perks you have -- share something of yours that is deemed valuable by a coworker or friend, and make sure to do it in a casual way. This is not about them being blown away by how generous you are! It's about you making them understand just how important they are in your life. When you show warmth to someone unexpectedly, it can solidify important bonds between the two of you.

UPDATE
When I first started writing for children, I had no idea of the complexity of getting published. I started writing because I had ideas in my head. I saw books in the children's library that I could not understand how they got there. My stories are fresh, funny, and more often than not, full of dialogue and action.
I have a treasure trove of such stories, but, whenever I send them to children's publications, whether it be magazine, publisher, or agent, I get the same old response; It is not suitable to our needs at this time...goodluck finding a home for your work.
Hmmm...When talking to editors of the magazines that have accepted my work, they say that not every editor has the same taste in stories, poetry, or what- have- you. It doesn't matter how good or fresh the story. It doesn't matter how much or little dialogue, or action. The story must cry out to that particular editor in such a way that they want to read it over and over again. It must stay with the editor and come to mind without provication.
So, do I give up? I think not! I believe in my work and I have faith that eventually someone other than my current editors will feel that way also.
For those of you in the same rocky boat as I am, take heart, not all good books or stories get published right away. One day the rainbow's end will be in sight if we just reach for the sky.
